When he made the deal and let you leave without taking any money, he committed to the deal, whether someone else offered to buy it or not. Also, I'll bet he had your cell # and could have called when this other guy tried to cut in. That would have been the right thing to do. But he's not the only flake out there. I would have either given him some money down, and gotten a receipt, or better yet, stayed until my money arrived. Look at it this way: Given who he is, he probably lied about some things that you would not have discovered until it was too late.
